Aftermath: Isaiah Bower/Flash & Sirens
Lamar Township PA-A devastating second-alarm structure fire in Clinton County has claimed the lives of seven individuals, following a reported propane explosion Sunday morning.
At approximately 8:32 a.m. on April 19, 2026, emergency crews were dispatched to the 700 block of Long Run Road in Lamar Township for a residential structure fire. Initial reports indicate a propane tank explosion caused the home to become rapidly engulfed in flames prior to the arrival of first responders.
Upon arrival, units encountered the residence fully involved, with fire conditions preventing rescue efforts despite aggressive firefighting operations. The structure was ultimately destroyed.
The Clinton County Coroner’s Office was requested to the scene early in the incident. By approximately 4:30 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that seven individuals—six children and one adult—lost their lives as a result of the fire.
State Police Fire Marshals remain on scene and are actively investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to reports filed by Trooper Stephen Schramm of the State Police Fire/Explosion Investigation Unit, the victims were 34-year-old Sara B. Stoltzfus and six children – an 11-year-old son, 10-year-old son, 8-year-old daughter, 6-year-old daughter, 5-year-old son and 3-year-old son.
Community Response
The local community quickly came together in support of first responders and those affected by the tragedy.
Cindy Brungard delivered coffee and donuts from Dunkin (Mill Hall) along with sandwiches and water provided by Farmer’s Dotterer and Rest Haven Memorial Park to crews operating at the scene.
The Old School Market, located nearby, shared that the family impacted by the fire were valued vendors who had recently taken over a French fry stand and were “doing a fantastic job.” The market expressed that their hearts are broken over the loss.
Support Efforts
According to information released by family members, David Stoltzfus lost his wife, Sara Stoltzfus, along with their six children ranging in age from 2 to 12 years old. The fire has left him without his family, home, or personal belongings.
With the assistance of David’s cousin, James Glick, a GoFundMe has been established to support David as he begins the difficult process of rebuilding his life.
Organizers note that due to the family’s cultural preferences, this fundraiser is the most appropriate way for the public to offer support at this time.
