LAMAR TOWNSHIP - Pennsylvania State Police have released additional details regarding a crash involving a large black bear on U.S. Route 220 South on Sunday September 6th, 2026 : 21:01 Hours

According to the crash report, a 2026 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling southbound in the right lane when it struck a large black bear that was crossing the roadway. The vehicle came to a controlled stop along the roadside after sustaining disabling front-end damage and airbag deployment.

Police reported that two passengers suffered possible/minor injuries and refused EMS transport. One of those passengers was identified as 75-year-old Angelica Garcia Nazario of Bronx, New York. An 11-year-old male passenger from New Haven, Connecticut, was also listed with a possible injury. Three other juvenile passengers, ages 7, 11 and 11, were listed as not injured.

According to PSP, three juvenile occupants were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The driver was cited, with the report listing the primary violation as restraint systems – child booster. PSP stated that three citations were filed against the operator.

Lamar Township Volunteer Fire Company #11 responded, according to the report.
