LIBERTY TWP, PA — On Saturday, July 5th, 2025, at approximately 5:44 PM, emergency crews were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident involving a passenger vehicle and a horse-drawn buggy in the area of Sayers Dam Road and North Eagle Valley Road (Route 150), Liberty Township.
Upon arrival, responders found multiple patients injured. Due to the severity of injuries, a medical helicopter was requested. Two individuals were flown by LifeFlight to UPMC Williamsport in critical condition. Overnight, one of the patients succumbed to their injuries. The second patient is reportedly recovering. No further information has been released regarding the occupants of the vehicle involved, as the investigation remains ongoing.
The buggy involved was an open-seated style. Initial reports indicate the buggy was rear-ended, ejecting its occupants and causing the horse to flee the scene with the damaged buggy still attached. The horse was later safely secured by bystanders near Bald Eagle State Park and provided water until animal rescue personnel arrived. It has since been confirmed that the horse and buggy have been returned safely to their stables.
Route 150 in the immediate area was closed for an extended period to allow for cleanup and investigation. The Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating the incident.
Responding units included Station 21, Station 22, Station 9, PennDOT, Centre County Station 14 (Howard Fire Company), LifeFlight 1, and PSP.
This is a developing story.
