Liberty Township, PA — At approximately 8:16 PM on Tuesday evening, emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of N Beach Street and N Eagle Valley Road for a reported horse and buggy collision involving a possible ejection.
The initial report indicated two patients, which prompted LifeFlight to be placed on standby. Emergency units from Station 9, Station 21, Centre County Company 8, Centre County Company 24, responded to the scene. PennDOT was also requested to assist with roadway hazards and traffic control.
Upon arrival, first responders conducted an on-scene assessment and transported two Amish individuals to UPMC Williamsport via ground for their injuries. The severity of those injuries remains unknown at this time. During the incident, the driver of the vehicle involved was taken into custody, and the Pennsylvania State Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Due to the road closure, significant traffic delays were reported, particularly along the back road to Mill Hall, which became heavily congested Tuesday night. Community members noted that the horse and buggy had been returning from a wedding, consistent with Amish traditions of holding weddings on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The horse involved in the collision was safely secured and is reported to have suffered only minor injuries, including a banged-up leg. Initial reports suggested the horse had been loose and roaming in the Beech Creek area, but it was later contained.
Further details will be released by authorities as the investigation continues.
